August 6: Daily Decisions
God has given us two incredible gifts: “choice” and “today.” The freedom to choose what we will or will not do is a beautiful and powerful responsibility. When a choice is combined with living each day to the fullest (redeeming the time), our eternal destiny and those we influence are impacted. Everyone makes daily choices for either good or evil.
Daily decisions are the building blocks of our lives. The prophet Isaiah put it this way, “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” (Isaiah 28:10). In a culture that is about bigger, better, and brighter it can be easy to lose sight of the power of consistent commitments. The accumulative value of our daily choices is eternal and immeasurable in every area of our lives (spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical). We decide daily if God’s law of sowing and reaping will abound to our good or avalanche to our destruction. Here are two tools that can help you identify and improve the impact of your daily choices: Reflect and Review. Pray that we effectively incorporate these tools.
- Reflect: Count your blessings …
- List how God has blessed you (ex.: salvation, work, family, etc.), then meditate on how their loss would affect you. How often and with what intensity do you thank God for them?
- Having reflected, is there anything that hinders God from blessing you more? Ask Him. Write down what needs to change. Repent. Ask. Seek. Knock.
- Review: What are your priorities?
- List what you think should be the priorities in a Christian’s life (ex: prayer, work, family, etc.).
- Number them in order of importance (1 being the most important, etc.).
- How have you lived out your priorities in the last 24 hours?
Keep a copy in your bible. It helps you keep your priorities, remember what you value, and focus on what you most need to change (by His grace). Furthermore, this list becomes a matter of the most important and impactful of all your daily decisions: your prayer time. What will be the reward for your daily decisions? We all will find out on that great and final day!
