What is Prayer? (Week 2)

2.) Intercession: (entreat, meet (together), pray, reach, run). Jesus is a perfect example of an intercessor. He stood in the gap between heaven and hell for us, once and for all, giving us a perfect example of love. When we intercede for each other or a situation in prayer, we bear the burden for that person or situation as if it were our own, carrying it to the throne of God. Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah, and he saved his family. God is calling on believers to take the burden of a lost and dying world and run with it, straight to His throne.

3.) Supplication: (a petition, prayer, request). Supplication is a demonstration of faith towards God and usually involves desperation. When there is a hopeless situation, God always has a solution and is an ever-present help in time of need. The widow who continually went to the unjust judge to avenge her adversary is a perfect example of supplication. Like the widow, we need to wait on God, And while we wait, we should continue to demonstrate our faith as she did. We must believe that God will answer in His perfect time when we pray according to His will.
